The Smart Center will offer three Institutes at the University of Houston Campus for prospective teacher and current teachers of IPC. Master Teachers of Chemistry and Physics will conduct the Institutes. Inclusion of everyday applications of the concepts is an important segment of the Institute instruction. Teachers will be provided with resources enabling them to challenge and improve their students’ process and analytical skills. Each of the Institutes will integrate Physics and Chemistry concepts in the following areas:

  • ELECTRICITY - Electrochemistry, oxidation and reduction, batteries, photocells, solar cells, half cells, electrolytic cells, resistors, capacitors, and static electricity.
  • LIGHT - Color, reflectance, refraction, transmittance, interference, spectra, polarization, energy levels, excited states, and atomic structure.
  • MAGNETISM - Electromagnetism, electromagnetic fields or forces, ferromagnetic elements, bar magnets, ceramic magnets, and neodymium magnets

For more details, see the pages listing the 9th grade IPC course TEKS objectives to be emphasized during the workshops.

Fee per Institute - $500.00 per teacher includes all hand-outs, make and take materials, refreshments, and parking. Each Institute consists of four six hour days of instruction.

Registration Deadline - Three weeks before first day of each Institute. To ensure a place in the workshop(s) of your choice send registration form and check now. Workshop may be cancelled if less than 15 enrolled.
